Derby Day on May 6 will benefit Ronceverte mini golf course

By Stephen Baldwin, RealWV

If it’s the first Saturday in May, it’s Derby Day!

The 27th Annual Derby Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th, from 4-8 pm at the Cecil H. Underwood Blvd at WV State Fair Grounds. Each year, 500+ people attend this fun fundraiser.

All proceeds this year benefit Gateway’s new miniature golf course located by Jardin on the River at the Ronceverte Island Park.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door.  Contact Gateway Industries 304 645-3165.

Attendees can look forward to a buffet dinner, wine, beer, mint juleps, and soft drinks. Also planned is live music featuring Richard Hefner and the Blue Mountain Bluegrass Boys and a huge silent auction (including autographed sports memorabilia). In the true tradition of Kentucky Derby, a “Most Spectacular Hat Contest” will be held. And, of course, the Kentucky Derby will be shown on large TV’s throughout the venue. While waiting for the race, you will be able to pick your favorite horse.

Longtime volunteer Carolyn Rudley comments, “In addition to being a wonderful event with something to do for everyone, we support a very worthwhile cause.”
