It’s Official – Justice launches bid for U.S. Senate seat

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – Gov. Jim Justice, on Thursday, officially kicked off his campaign for the U.S. Senate. Justice, whose announcement came during an event at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs – a business owned by the Justice family – now seeks to unseat Democratic incumbent, Sen. Joe Manchin.

“I promise you that I’ll do the job that will make you proud,” Justice told the room of supporters. “We’ve got real challenges in front of us.”

Justice’s announcement ends months of speculation regarding his political future. The governor first publicly hinted at a senatorial-bid during his Jan. 11 “State of the State” address to the State legislature. Republican Alex Mooney, one of West Virginia’s two representatives in the U.S. Congress, previously declared his candidacy for the seat. A primary election will take place next year to determine the Republican nominee.
