Richwood Area Chamber of Commerce to host 38th Annual Scenic Mountain Triathlon

The 38th anniversary of Richwood’s Scenic Mountain Triathlon organized by the Richwood Chamber of Commerce is just a little over a month away but there is still time to register. If you win Richwood’s Scenic Mountain Triathlon as a Youth, 19 and under, or an Adult, you could be our next USA Triathlon State Champion! Also, if you are a current high school student, you can participate in this race without jeopardizing your amateur status!

This unique race is held in the Monongahela National Forest (under a special use permit) which lies along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains, making the view spectacular and the course challenging.

A total of 23.8 miles, the race begins with a 0.5-mile swim in Summit Lake, followed by a 17.1-mile bikeride from Summit Lake to Cranberry Mountain Nature Center on State Route 39/55, and ends with a 6.2-mile run from the Nature Center to the locked gate below Cranberry Glades and back to the Finish line at the Nature Center.

We expect to have a great race this year thanks to our sponsors SHENTEL, Camden-on- Gauley Medical Center, Inc., Mountain Transit Authority, The Richwood Area Chamber of Commerce, the Nicholas County Commission, Zachwieja Workman Architects, First Community Bank, Columbia Forest Products, Nicholas County CVB, Bruce Sigler, Doss Electric, Summersville CVB, the Pocahontas County Memorial Hospital, and the Pocahontas County CVB, Four Seasons Outfitters.

The Scenic Mt. Triathlon is an event that has become a favorite of triathletes and spectators alike, sparking comments such as, “If I could go to one race in a year, this would be it!” This race is a great inspiration to the athletes in Nicholas, Pocahontas, and
Greenbrier Counties, as well as other counties and across several states, with participants ranging in age from 12-77!

If you hurry you can participate in a FREE Clinic, short event rehearsal at Summit Lake, on June 3 from 10 – 3. Registration for the Clinic closes May 26. To participate in this FREE Clinic, email
