Schoolhouse Hotel hosts community celebration

By Stephen Baldwin, RealWV

Charlie Hammerman, owner of The Schoolhouse Hotel, invited the community to a dinner Wednesday evening celebrating the one-year anniversary of the property’s opening.

“It’s hard to believe it has been a year,” Hammerman said with a smile. “We’re making an economic impact and engaged with the community, so it’s been a good first year.”

The Schoolhouse Hotel is the world’s first fully ADA-compliant boutique hotel. The doors officially opened last June. Ever since, the rave reviews have been rolling in.

Southern Living. Frommer’s. Travel + Leisure. They all lauded the hotel in vision and execution.

Guests at the community celebration were treated to a menu including she-crab soup, caesar salad, short ribs with potatoes and carrots (other entree options included salmon and chicken cordon bleu), cheesecake, and soft chocolate. But perhaps most important of all were the yeast rolls, modeled after those prepared by school cooks in the days when the hotel was in fact a school.
