Woody was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday, Aug. 5, for “endeavoring to create diversity in a state that is not as diverse as we would like.” Woody has spent more than 40 years as a high school and college basketball official in West Virginia – beginning his career at a time when African Americans were not permitted to serve as referees.
