Flavor Mutt: Making bread & vegetables cool again

After a month-long hiatus that felt like a year to regular customers, Flavor Mutt is back.

New menu. New space in Ronceverte. New expanded hours. Same unique food that aims to make bread and vegetables cool again. Same love for everyone who walks in the door from Chad & Jennifer Jones.

Chef Chad says, “In the beginning, I was a bit nervous to introduce my style of food. I didn’t know how it would go over. But people have responded so positively. They have genuinely thanked us for bringing something unique, interesting, and healthy to the area. That means the world to me.”

New space & hours

Flavor Mutt is located on Edgar Avenue beside The Sportsman Tavern. A door connects the two spaces. They serve a variety of breads, vegetables, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. All from scratch. Photo by RealWV.

Flavor Mutt began as an add-on at The Sportsman Tavern, located on Edgar Avenue in Ronceverte. They opened for lunch a few days a week. Then owners Mark Trent and Dan WIthrow acquired the building next door, connected the two spaces with an adjoining door, and now have a restaurant that’s open five days a week for lunch and dinner.

New Menu

The new menu includes four different pizzas (which are able in slices with a side salad or in packs of four), salads, sandwiches, and add-ons. Flavor Mutt makes their own sourdough and source other ingredients from local sources including Perk Farm, Swift Level Fine Meats, Clean Acres Farm, Arbaugh Farm, McMillions Microgreens, & Deep Roots Milling.

‘Love & gratitude’

While Chef Chad prepares food, Jennifer takes care of their customers. She treats everyone who comes through the door like an old friend, because once she’s met you…you are. She will remember your name, your order, and your story.

“Everyone will notice the changes, even moving so close as next door,” she adds. “But there are definite things which will always remain the same—the love and gratitude we have for our customers.”

“Sharing food with our community is the greatest form of love for us,” she says, “because it’s sustenance on so many levels. We are beyond blessed because each day we get to love on every single person that walks through our door—each in our own way.”

Flavor Mutt is open for lunch Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30-3 and for dinner from 5-7pm at 687 Edgar AVenue on Ronceverte. Check them out on social media @Flavor Mutt.
