Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee condemns Hamas’ attack on Israel

The Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Hamas’ violent surprise attack on Israel, including its brutal slaying of 260 concert goers, Americans, and taking hostages.

“We stand with the nation of Israel, support its right to exist in peace, and strongly condemn the abhorrent violence that has occurred,” said Elaine Harris Kanawha County Chair. “Our hearts go out to the families of those killed, wounded, or kidnapped. We stand in solidarity with the people of Israel and its right to defend itself from terrorism.”

The resolution calls for peace, condemns terrorism, and supports Israel’s right to self-defense. It also invites the world to join us in prayers for peace and reconciliation, not only in this troubled region of the world, but around the globe.

The resolution is being sent to the Israeli Ambassador to the United States and West Virginia’s congressional delegation.

The full resolution reads:

WHEREAS, On October 7, 2023, the militant organization Hamas launched a surprise and unprovoked attack upon the nation of Israel, resulting in the deaths of over Sixteen Hundred persons to date, including innocent civilians and their children and at least twenty-two Americans; and,
WHEREAS; Hundreds of civilians were captured and are being held in Hamas occupied land; and,
WHEREAS, It is expected this conflict will escalate as Israel defends itself and seeks those responsible for the attacks; and,
WHEREAS, the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee vehemently condemns these reprehensible attacks launched by Hamas against Israel; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that our hearts go out to the victims of these senseless attacks; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee expresses its unwavering support for the people of Israel, stands in solidarity with the people of Israel, and supports its right to live as a free, peaceful and sovereign nation; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee stands with the people of Israel and its right to defend itself against terrorism and aggression as well as Israel’s efforts to safeguard its borders and maintain the well-being of its people; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that our thoughts are with the Israeli citizens facing these violent and illegal attacks, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families affected; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kanawha County Democratic Party remains committed to promoting peace, condemning terrorism, and supporting Israel’s right to self-defense, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that we join the world in prayers for peace and reconciliation, not only in this troubled region of the world, but around the globe, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee is authorized to send copies of this resolution to the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, the members of the congressional delegation from West Virginia, and to such other persons or organizations as the Chair may designate.
Duly adopted this 10th day of October 2023.
