McDowell County weekend events: Dec. 1 through Dec. 3:

Friday, Dec 1:

  • Annual Coaltown Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting in downtown Welch:

Line up at 6:30 p.m. at Welch Elementary School. Parade begins at 7 p.m. Prizes for best decorated float & ATV/SXS. Food and holiday vendors downtown. Call 304-436-3113 for more information.

  • Christmas Craft Show at the Jack Caffrey Center:

Lunch will be sold by Spencer’s Catering. Handmade Christmas Crafts, T-shirts, tumblers, mugs, jewelry, and other items will be sold. Call 304-436-5392 for more information or to be a vendor.

Friday, Dec. 1 & Saturday, Dec. 2:

  • War’s Christmas Bazaar and Flea Market:

Big Creek Community Center. Friday hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturday hours are 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Concessions will be sold.

Saturday, Dec. 2:

  • 1st Annual Paul Hare Memorial Christmas Parade in Iaeger:

Iaefer Beautification Committee, More L.I.F.E & Southern Appalachian Enrichment Project Parade will begin at 5 p.m. Lineup at Christ Cathedral from 3 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Santa will be at the Janice Roberts Memorial Park.   • Grand Opening of The Fortress:

Sunday, Dec. 3:

  • Free Photos with Santa:

Photographer Will Price will be at the Jack Caffrey Arts & Cultural Center, 143 Wyoming St. in Welch, taking pictures with Santa. Get your free 5 X 7 and a link for a digital download.

  • Coaltown USA Polar Express:

Trolley Express ride and Polar Express movie. Pick up at 1 p.m. at the Welch Armory parking lot. $10 per person. Pay online at coaltownusa.org. Wear your favorite PJ’s.
