Seldomridge releases new single ‘Broken Pieces’

Nathan Seldomridge began playing guitar when he was 12 years old. By age 13, he wrote his first song. “I just love playing music,” he says.

Now after years of performing live, his first single, “Broken Pieces,” is available worldwide on all streaming platforms. Click here to listen: https://hyperfollow.com/nathanseldomridge

Nathan says the song began as a “pity party for myself.” But over time, it evolved as he realized the role he played in the situations he was writing about. “The song is about the consequences of avoidance–what happens when you keep running away from something.”

He says that happens often in the course of writing a song. “The thing you start writing almost never ends up the same way,” he shares.

Not only did his life perspective change on the course of writing the song, but the song itself took on a life of its own.

Nathan recorded most of it himself at his home studio. But a meeting arranged by Charlie Hatcher with Matt Ross-Spang of Southern Groove Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, took a turn Nathan never saw coming.

Matt is a two-time Grammy winner who has worked with John Prine, Jason Isbell, and Tyler Childers, among others. Nathan applied for grant funding via the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History to undertake a mentorship with Matt at Southern Groove Studios.

“Originally I was just going to go down and hang out,” Nathan remembers. “But Charlie told Matt I was a songwriter, and Matt asked me to share some music.”

Nathan played “Broken Pieces” for him, and he immediately took to it. “We spent the better part of the day mixing it,” says Nathan.  “It was pretty cool. To have your single mixed by someone recognized in the industry is just amazing.”

Next year, Nathan plans to record a full album. In the meantime, he’s honing his craft. “I’m just writing as much as I can right now,” he tells RealWV. “I’m writing additional songs and making the songs I have stronger. I’ve been taking vocal lessons. I want to make sure whatever I put out is my personal best.”

Distro Kid is distributing Nathan’s single on platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more. For more information, follow Nathan Seldomridge on social media.
