McDowell County weekend events: December 8 through December 10

Special thanks to Jennifer Justice, executive director of the McDowell County CVB and secretary of the McDowell County Chamber of Commerce, for her assistance with providing the following list of events scheduled between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10:

Friday, Dec. 8:

  • Coaltown Music Co. Orchestra and Chorale:

A Coaltown Christmas Concert at Mount View High School in Welch. Admission is free and open to all ages. Concert begins at 7 p.m.

  • The City of War Presents A Whoville Christmas:

Parade lineup begins at 5 p.m. at the Hatfield McCoy Trailhead. Parade begins at 6 p.m. Festivities at the Big Creek Community Center include music, fun, cookies, hot chocolate, games, toys, treat bags, inflatable slides, and a visit from Santa Claus. Call 304-875-3111 for more information. 

Saturday, Dec. 9:

  • Coaltown Music Co. Orchestra and Chorale:

Christmas Concert with Josh Townsend and Logan Smith at the Jack Caffrey Center. Concert begins at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to all ages. Christmas cookies and refreshments will be provided. Must call 304-436-6588 to register.

  • Town of Bradshaw Christmas Parade:

Lineup will be at Bradshaw Church of God. Parade to begin at 5 p.m. Contact Bradshaw Town Hall at 304-967-7370 for more information.

  • More L.I.F.E. Bingo:

6 p.m. at Bradshaw Town Hall. Come try your luck at winning special WVU prizes and many other donated gifts just in time for the holidays.

  • City of Gary Christmas Parade:

Lineup near Gary sewer plant. Parade to begin at 1 p.m. For more information, contact Gary City Hall at 304-448-2209.

  • Skygusty Christmas Parade:

Lineup at the golf course. Parade to begin at 5 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 10:

  • Coaltown USA Polar Express:

Trolley Express ride and Polar Express movie. Pickup at 1 p.m. at the Welch Armory parking lot. $10 per person. Pay online at coaltownusa.org. Wear your favorite pajamas.
