Possum Holler Pizza wins ‘Best Pizza in the Valley 2023’

By Stephen Baldwin

There’s no shortage of scrumptious pizza in the Cherry, Greenbrier, and Meadow River Valleys, so the competition for the people’s choice award was stiff in 2023.

The Top 6, as voted on from more than 20 nominees by our readers, advanced to the final round–Hill & Holler, Hole in the Wall, Pies & Pints, Vandall’s, April’s, and Possum Holler.

Taking more than 50% of the 3,000+ votes cast, the people’s choice is…Possum Holler Pizza!

Located on the main drag of Route 60 in Rupert, there’s a lot to love about Possum Holler! Let us count the ways…

  1. The Name. Possum Holler. If there’s a better name for a restaurant anywhere in West Virginia, you better call your grandma and tell her. Because Possum Holler just sounds like the coolest place in town…and that’s exactly what Possum Holler Pizza is.
  2. The Owner. Ida Harris runs the place along with her family and employees. Over the years, she’s been through floods, moves, ups, and downs…but she has persevered at every step of the way to offer affordable food that people love.
  3. The Pizza. The crust is unique, as it’s not a traditional pizza crust. It’s super thin and crispy, made by Ida each day. And she offers it at very reasonable prices, piled high with all kinds of toppings.
  4. The Games. Stepping into Possum Holler is kind of like stepping back into the 80s or 90s. There are wall to wall pinball machines and video games (most of which only cost a quarter to play). Kids love it, and parents plus grandparents feel like kids again!
  5. The Atmosphere. It’s like Cheers, but with pizza. Everybody knows your name, and they’re awfully glad you came.

If you’d like to visit, you can find them at 371 Nicholas Street in Rupert. Follow them on Facebook.

So a big congratulations to Possum Holler Pizza on being voted by our readers as the Best Pizza in the Valley 2023!

Stay tuned for our next food contest coming very soon…
