Osborne Secures Career Win No. 300 in Victory Over West Virginia Wesleyan

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – University of Charleston Men’s Basketball (12-2, 7-1 MEC) picks up a fiery 116-76 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College (1-13, 0-7 MEC), outscoring the Bobcats 18-8 on points off turnovers, 12-8 on second chance points, 44-27 on bench points, 56-36 on points in paint and 25-7 on fast break points.

Junior Shunta Wilson played a key role for Charleston, shooting 9-10 from the floor with 24 points scored, three assists, seven rebounds and a steal. This victory marks 300 career wins for Head Coach Dwaine Osborne.

How it Happened:
Just like in their victory over Virginia Union University on Monday, the first points for Charleston came off a three-pointer by DeAirius Barker. The Bobcats responded with one of their own, followed by another UC shot from downtown by CJ Meredith to make the score 6-5. The lead would change hands one more time before the Golden Eagles jumped to a 15-7 advantage with baskets from Dwaine Jones and Eddie Colbert III. The momentum for the Golden Eagles only continued to build, as they concluded the half leading 49-29 with a dunk by Wilson and treys by Jones, Barker, Wilson, Meredith. 

Charleston did not let up in the second half, as Barker started it off again for the Golden Eagles with a jump shot, followed by a slam dunk by Tyler Eberhart to extend the lead to 51-29. The Bobcats responded with a layup, but another three-pointer by Barker continued UC’s roll. Charleston led all the way to the end to secure the hefty 116-76 victory over the Bobcats.

Wilson took charge of the scoring for Charleston with 24 points, but Colbert III and Barker followed closely behind with 19 and 18 points tallied. Meredith was on fire both on defense and on offense, as he scored 17 points while shooting 5-9 from the floor with six rebounds, four assists, four blocks and a steal.
