West Virginia State’s Arthur Cox named MEC Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – West Virginia State men’s basketball’s Arthur Cox (Fayetteville, Ark./Fayetteville) was named the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, for his performances in wins over Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan last week. He averaged 21.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game to earn honors from the league.

Cox led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 20 points against D&E while grabbing six boards, swiping three steals and dishing out one assist. He led WVSU in scoring again with 20 points at Wesleyan and added 10 rebounds (7O-3D) to register a double-double. He also had an assist and a steal in that game. Over the course of the week, he shot 61 percent (14-23) from the floor, 67 percent (2-3) from three-point range, and 86 percent (12-14) from the free throw line. He totaled 42 points, 16 rebounds (8O-8D), four steals and two assists in two games played this past week.

Cox is the second-leading scorer and rebounder for the Yellow Jackets with 12.6 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. He leads the team in field goal percentage with a 58.7 percent conversion rate  and is among the top five in free throw percentage (76.9).
