Marshall’s Abby Herring breaks indoor 3K record for fourth time

 LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Abby Herring has now broken a quarter-century of school records as a member of the Marshall University Cross Country and Track & Field programs.

The latest came Friday at Louisville’s PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in the 3K. Herring raced a 9:21.88 to win the event. Her time broke her own school record time set two weeks prior at the Marshall Classic.

The 2023 NCAA DI Cross Country National Championship qualifier currently holds the top mark in the event in the Sun Belt Conference, and the 35th-best time across NCAA DI.  

Friday also featured a victory in the Women’s Weight Throw by Rebecca Merritt, who rallied to win with an 18.33 meter throw. The Herd scored in six additional events including a 5th place finish in the Men’s 400 by Ethan Bowens.
