Gloria Martin

Oftentimes, it’s the people working behind the scenes who make the world go round. They don’t do it for the credit, the praise, or the recognition. And that works out since they generally don’t get any. But if you’ve ever found yourself needing food in the Greenbrier Valley, then you’re probably familiar with Gloria Martin, and you already know she is one of those people.

As the longtime force behind the Lewisburg Fairlea Food Locker at Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Gloria has been a treasure to her community, and an invaluable resource to those in need of just a little bit of help. In addition, Gloria has spent years advocating for the victims of domestic violence, and serves as Chair of the Greenbrier County Elder Abuse Awareness Committee.

This past holiday season, Gloria helped unite Greenbrier County’s Republican Club and Democratic Women’s Club in a non-partisan effort to ensure that no one in the community had to go hungry. The resulting joint food drive was a tremendous success. And in typical credit-less, behind-the-scenes fashion, Gloria credited the community’s generosity for making the drive the success that it was.

For doing all she can to take care of those around her, for her tireless dedication to civic unity, and for her unwavering support of the residents of the state, RealWV is proud to name Gloria Martin as the Certified Real West Virginian of the week.
