Jim Wolfe

I’m happy to say that RealWV has named Jim Wolfe as the certified Real West Virginia of the week this week, because it gives me a chance to offer my thanks for all he does in support of the Poetry Out Loud program. This past weekend, 46 high school students from all across the state came to Charleston to compete in the Poetry Out loud state finals. It was a breathtaking event, and if you weren’t there to see it, believe me when I say the loss was yours.

As Program Coordinator for the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, Jim administers the Arts in Education grant programs and is the state coordinator for Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation contest for high school students. He oversees the STEAM Power WV grant program and is also the host of the ArtWorks television show.

Through his hard work and dedication to the youth of West Virginia, Jim makes the state’s Poetry Out Loud program possible. And as a reporter who has now twice had the privilege of covering these kids doing what they love, I personally can’t thank Jim enough.

For his love for our youth and his tireless support of the arts, (and with an extra personal thank you from me) it is with great appreciation that we name Jim Wolfe as the certified Real West Virginian of the Week. – Matthew Young
