Michael Miller named Monroe County’s Interim Sheriff

RealWV Staff Report,

UNION, W.Va. – In the wake of Jeff Jones’ resignation, the Monroe County Commission, on Tuesday, named Michael Miller as Interim County Sheriff.

According to a statement from Monroe County Clerk Jeremy Meadows, Miller has previously served with the West Virginia State Police, and was formerly head of security at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs. Meadows’ statement further notes that Miller was selected as interim sheriff under the guidance of both the Secretary of State’s office, and Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney, Justin St. Clair. Miller will serve the duration of the current term, which will expire on Dec. 31.

An additional statement from Monroe County Commission President Kevin Galford reads, “To be fair in the Primary election, we had to appoint someone not in the current sheriff race. It is our duty, as a commission, to not interfere or give anyone an unfair advantage in the upcoming election.”

Scott Miller and Michael Heller are both seeking the Republican nomination, and no Democrats have filed for the office of sheriff. Barring any potential challenge from an independent candidate, the winner of the May 14 Republican Primary will run unopposed.
