Marshall men’s golf washed out at True Blue

PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall Men’s Golf had things going in the right direction on Wednesday at True Blue Golf Club.

However, Mother Nature put an end to the Thundering Herd’s final round a bit early.

Marshall was tied for fourth and had the second-best round going of any team in the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate when the weather turned and forced the cancellation of the final round of the event.

At the time of the round’s cancellation, Marshall had three players in the top-20 in the standings with Tyler Jones and Joseph Kalaskey at 3-under for the tournament while Ryan Bilby was a shot back at 2-under.

Kalaskey was the biggest mover on the day, having vaulted 16 places in the standings, thanks to a round in which he found a rhythm and performed well. After a bogey on his first hole of the day, Kalaskey went birdie-par-eagle over his next three holes before also finding three birdies in a stretch of five holes to sit at 4-under for the day through 13 holes when play was halted.

Bilby had also gotten into red numbers with three birdies and a bogey through his first 11 holes before the rains came.

Jones continued his steady play from throughout the week, remaining at par or better for all rounds he’d competed in this weekend. On Wednesday, he had 10 pars in 12 holes prior to play stoppage.

When rain cancels a round, the results revert back to the last completed round, which left the Herd in seventh place at tournament’s end despite the team being in fourth at the time of the cancellation.

Marshall’s Men’s Golf team returns to action on April 15-16 at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate in Bridgeport, W.Va.
