Justice calls for Special Legislative Session to begin tonight

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – W.Va. Gove Jim Justice, on Friday, called members of the State Legislature into Special Session, beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday evening.

In his proclamation, Justice outlined 15 agenda items for lawmakers to consider, all of which pertaining to the state’s financial status.

Some of the agenda item in Justice’s proclamation include:

  • Restoring the budgets of the Departments of Human Services and Health.
  • Supplementing appropriations to the Department of Transportation.
  • Supplementing appropriations to the Governor’s Civil Contingent fund.
  • A $10 million appropriation to the Posey Perry Food Bank fund.
  • A more than $30 million appropriation to the Department of Education to supplement the Hope Scholarship.
  • A more than $83 million appropriation to the Higher Education Policy Commission to address issues with the “FAFSA” system.
  • A $2 million appropriation to the Department of Veterans Assistance.

Only agenda items set forth by the governor may be discussed or considered during a called Special Session of the State Legislature. RealWV will provide updates as to the progress made during the session as additional information is made available.
