Dirty Birds drop third game of three game series in extra innings to Southern Maryland

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Charleston Dirty Birds, on Thursday, lost game three of a three game series to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The 9-5 loss represents the first in extra innings for the Dirty Birds this season.

Despite with wins in two of their last three games, the Dirty Birds remain two games under 0.500, with a record of 21-23. This puts the third place Charleston club a full nine games out of first place.

Just over 2,200 fans were in attendance at GoMart Ballpark for the Dirty Birds losing effort. Nick Horvath, who pitched only the 10th inning and gave up four runs, recorded the loss. David Lebron, who started for Charleston, allowed only one run in seven innings while striking out 10.

The Dirty Birds bullpen allowed three home runs. In the eighth inning, Gerald Ogando allowed a two-run home run to tie the score. In the ninth inning, Pearson McMahan gave up a two-run blast for the Blue Crabs to take the lead. In the tenth inning, Nick Horvath gave up a grand slam to Miles Williams for Southern Maryland to take the lead for the final time.

The Dirty Birds travel to Southern Maryland Friday to kick-off a six-game road trip. The next home stand is June 21-June 27 at GoMart Ballpark.
