CAMC announces Shelda Martin as new Chief Medical Officer

Shelda Martin, MD, has been promoted to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Vice President for Medical Affairs after serving as the interim CMO for the last six months.

Dr. Martin is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medical Technology and School of Medicine. She completed an internal medicine internship and residency at CAMC, including serving as the chief resident.

She spent 20 years of her medical career in education, teaching internal medicine with West Virginia University in Charleston and achieved the rank of associate professor.

Prior to serving as the interim CMO, Martin served as the associate chief medical officer at CAMC Memorial Hospital and ambulatory/physician services. During her tenure in these roles, she worked collaboratively with the hospital leadership team to develop and achieve the system’s strategic goals. There were many accomplishments because of Martin’s leadership, including development of the Opioid Use Disorder Task Force strategy for an Addiction Care Program and working with the team to achieve Cardiac Cath Lab and Chest Pain Center Accreditations. Martin is passionate for patients, including those she serves while working as the medical director for the CAMC Ryan White Program.
