Kanawha County students in grades 4-12 compete in ‘Math Field Day’

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Students from across Kanawha County made their way to Charleston this week, to take part in the county’s “Math Field Day” competitions.
First up were fourth and fifth graders, who competed on Tuesday.
Winners in the Fourth Grade Division were:
- Roger Lin, Central Elementary School
- Ella Alhamwi, Sacred Heart
- Will Emrick, Overbrook Elementary School
- Charlie Johnstone, Holz Elementary School (Alternate)

Winners in the Fifth Grade Division were:
- Evan Cumberledge, Cross Lanes Christian
- Ian Alhamwi, Sacred Heart
- Irfan Oreshade, Holz Elementary School
- Mya Durden, Ruffner Elementary School

On Wednesday, students in grades six through 12 competed.
Winners in the Sixth Grade Division Were:
- Charlie Davis, John Adams Middle School
- Joseph Wonsettler, Sissonville Middle School
- Franklin Lattimer, Hayes Middle School
- Hendrix Teague, Charleston Catholic Middle School (Alternate)

Winners in the Seventh Grade Division were:
- Hayden Zhang, Andrew Jackson Middle School
- Eli Hale, Horace Mann Middle School
- Elisa Bailey, Charleston Catholic Middle School
- Vedanshi Pachauri, John Adams Middle School (Alternate)

Winners in the Eighth Grade Division were:
- Hope Wu, John Adams Middle School
- Beau Hale, Horace Mann Middle School
- Jacob Wilson, Andrew Jackson Middle School
- Izaiah Bess, DuPont Middle School (Alternate)

Winners in the Ninth Grade Division were:

- Christian Carr, Ntro High School (Alternate)

Winners in the High School Division were:
- Shrihan Malkaran, George Washington High School
- Vinu Chandrasekar, George Washington High School

- Archana Krishnathas, George Washington High School
- Lucas Shamblin, Sissonville High School

The highest overall scoring middle and high schools were John Adams and George Washington, respectively. All winning students will now move on to regional competition.
