‘The Hangar’ offers a travel-inspired dinner menu at GV Brewing

It’s not unusual to get a good meal at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company (GVBC), located beside the Greenbrier Valley Airport. Those opportunities often come from food trucks at special events paired with local brews.

But now, GVBC is expanding operations with the addition of a new pop-up kitchen onsite. Locals and travelers are invited to grab dinner Wednesday-Saturday weekly.

“We wanted a menu that’s approachable but with a global spin,” explains Jason Nerenberg, Vice President of GVBC and Hawk Knob Appalachian Cider. “We do Cantonese-inspired bratwurst, an Indian lamb curry, and the special burger tonight is a play on Mexican street corn, elote.”

The Hangar is located inside GVBC’s warehouse. It is currently a temporary pop-up kitchen, but the plan is to build a full, permanent kitchen later this year in order to support extended hours and a larger menu.

“I’m very hopeful we can offer lunch as well,” Jason adds. “It’s sorely needed in Maxwelton. There’s not a lot of options.”

The kitchen is run by Chef Amanda Bennett and her team, who operate the kitchen at Hawk Knob Appalachian Cider the rest of the year.

“We have closed the tasting room at the cidery temporarily for the winter months,” says Jason. “Muddy Creek Mountain is sometimes inaccessible during the winter. So several of our folks had nothing to do until we reopen in April. So the thought was we’d bring them here to operate The Hangar.”

“It’s a different vibe here,” Jason says in comparison to Hawk Knob, which is located on a farm. “There kids can run free and fish and pet the horses. Here at the brewery, we’re in a warehouse in an industrial zone next to the airport. You’re going to see the largest production brewery in West Virginia doing what they do best. And you’ll also get to watch planes land and take off, which we really enjoy around here.”

The Hangar has only been open three weeks so far, but Jason says the response has been incredible.

“We have a wonderful local following,” he shares. “We are still seeing our same familiar faces to drink our brews. We’re also seeing a lot of folks who are used to going to Hawk Knob, plus travelers.”

Expect to see the menu expand in the spring. “If our customers have an idea, we’ll try it,” Jason says. “As we’re inspired by our travels, we will try new things out too. The menu is ever-evolving.”

The Hangar is located at 862 Industrial Park Road A, Maxwelton, WV. They are open Wednesday-Friday from 3-9pm and on Saturday from 12-9pm. For more information, visit their social media.
