Greenbrier Commission approves more than $300k for sewer project, allocates $54k to fire departments

LEWISBURG, W.Va. – The Greenbrier County Commission, on Tuesday, revisited their motion to allocate nearly $55,000 in state funding to the county’s 15 fire departments, and three emergency medical service (EMS) providers.
As explained by Commissioner Tammy Tincher, “This is a correction of a motion from two meetings ago. [This] was funded only for fire services. Emergency medical agencies were not eligible to receive these funds.”
“Two meetings ago, we approved funding to be able to go to our three EMS agencies,” Tincher added, noting that the previous motion had been made with direction from the state. “All of that information was provided to us from the state on how to move forward.”
Tincher’s motion to rescind the commission’s earlier action and reallocate the funds to only the county’s fire departments was approved. The total state award of $54,487.64 will now be divided evenly among the 15 fire departments, leaving each department with an allocation of $3,632.51.
In Other business, commissioners tentatively approved a payment resolution in the amount of $304,636.89 for the Route 60 East Sewer Project (White Sulphur Springs TIF project). The funds are to compensate vendors from both Viper Contracting and E.L. Robinson Engineering for work performed on the project, and the tentative approval was due to a $40 invoicing-error. Once the corrected invoice is submitted, the approval will become final.
Last before the commission was consideration of Greenbrier County Homeland Security and 911 Agency’s application to the CSX Community Service Grants program, for two individual $5,000 grants. These are non-matching grants, and, if awarded, the funds will be used for the purchase of a drone.
A public hearing regarding the county’s proposed amended 911 ordinance will be held on Tuesday, March 25, at 9 a.m. The Greenbrier County Commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled to follow the hearing at 10 a.m.
