Hewett earns All-Big 12 Selection for WVU Rowing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team concluded its spring season in Sarasota, Florida, with the 2025 Big 12 Championship on May 18, at Nathan Benderson Park.
Announced during the championship’s awards ceremony, senior Violet Hewett earned All-Big 12 First Team honors for the second straight year. She is the second rower in school history to be named to multiple All-Big 12 teams (Lydia Nicolai, 2022 and 2023).
“Although we were not happy with our overall placings in our events, we were glad our athletes put down some of their best performances of the season, and we are encouraged to see that our margins with our closest competitors have closed,” associate head coach Tina Griffith said. “Our overall takeaways are determination and excitement for next season and sincere thankfulness for our seniors. We hope that our seniors enjoyed their experiences and were able to grow as athletes and people, and we hope that country roads always bring them back.”
UCF captured its first Big 12 title, finishing with a perfect score of 84 points, while Tulsa finished runner-up with 65 points. Kansas finished third on the medal stand with 52 points, Kansas State secured fourth with 49 points, Old Dominion was fifth with 24 points and West Virginia took sixth with 19 points.
Throughout the day there were a lot of tight races, and the Mountaineers best finish came in the 2V8+ where WVU took fifth place, finishing more than 14 seconds ahead of Old Dominion.
