Front Porch Conversations: Is there a connection between Diane Keaton and West Virginia?
I can’t think about Diane Keaton without thinking about Father of the Bride. I can’t think about Father of the Bride without thinking about Kim Williams-Paisley, and I can’t think about Kim Williams-Paisley without thinking about Brad Paisley and West Virginia. So, in my mind, Diane Keaton is kind of the mother of a West Virginian? Thoughts?
Hmmmm….
You have a point. Actress Diane Keaton passed away in California on Oct. 11. She was 79 years old. And while she wasn’t “technically” the mother of a West Virginian, we like your argument.
Way back in 1991, Diane Keaton played the role of Nina Banks (the mother of Annie Banks, played by Kimberly Williams) in the movie “Father of the Bride.” Banjo player Steve Martin played the part of George Banks, the father of Annie Banks. In 1995, this trio reunited for Father of the Bride II.
Kimberly Williams, in 2003, married West Virginia’s very own Brad Paisley – making her an “unofficial, but official” West Virginian.
Although Williams-Paisley completed the movies with Keaton prior to her marriage to Brad, we won’t focus on that. Instead we will take a look at this post from her Facebook page honoring Keaton:
It only makes sense that if West Virginia’s “unofficial, but official” daughter Williams-Paisley once called Keaton mom, then we must too.
This week would be a good week to revisit the Father of the Bride movies, and other movies starring Keaton, like “The Godfather” films, the “First Wives Club,” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”
After all, West Virginia’s mothers are very important.
