Sisterets Sweets USA brings a taste of home to West Virginia
By Dakota Baker, RealWV
If you are looking for your next small business to support and are craving something sweet or savory, look no further; Sisterets Sweets USA has got you covered.
Richie Stout, one of the co-owners of Sisterets Sweets USA, met with Real WV and shared a bit about the start of her family business.
Stout began her baking journey in 2018. She told the Real WV that she taught herself how to cook and bake, mainly by watching YouTube videos. She began sharing her delicious creations with her friends, and they told her she should consider starting her own business, but she felt she needed more practice. Her sister, who had already begun baking in the Philippines, marked the beginning of their business venture. She named her business Sisterets Sweets Philippines. When Richie started her business here, she called it Sisterets Sweets USA and lucky for us, brought Philippine treats to the mountain state. Additionally, she has another sister in Taiwan who pursued online baking and pastry courses and also established her own business. It would seem Richie and her family were destined to bless us with delicious food and I can tell you firsthand that practice makes perfect, because if you try anything from Sisterets Sweets USA, you will come crawling back for seconds, thirds, and fourths.
Richie loves working with her family and tells the Real WV she has so much fun. She says she loves karaoke, so she bought a JBL speaker. They will bake and listen to the music while her sister is singing, and they will all dance and work together to fulfill all their orders; their mom even helps.
Richie’s favorite thing to bake is pastries, specifically hopia and empanadas. She says all the pastries are extremely popular, with ensaymada and ube pandesal (purple yam bread) being fan favorites. Pepperoni rolls are the most popular among her American clients, and as West Virginians, y’all have a civic duty to run and try them immediately (I may or may not have had eight by myself).
Richie is not only a self-taught baker, but she works several other jobs outside her family business. Filling baking orders takes place outside her other jobs and she juggles her work-life balance gracefully, making sure to set aside time for herself and her family.
Richie would like to see more people exploring new foods and Sisterets Sweets is the Real WV approved. Orders can be placed through their facebook page Sisterets Sweets USA or by contacting (304) 661-0348. Ya’ll get to ordering!
