Greenbrier River Trail announces closures for bridge re-decking project

Important Information for Trail Users

The Greenbrier River Trail will be undergoing a significant bridge redecking project over the next two years. The project is scheduled to begin in mid-January 2026 on the southern end of the Trail at Caldwell. As work progresses, certain sections of the Trail will be inaccessible to users.

We urge all Trail users to stay informed about specific closure dates and affected sections by regularly visiting the Greenbrier River Trail Foundation website:  https://www.greenbrierrivertrail.com

Up-to-date information will be posted as the project advances.

We ask for your patience and understanding as we complete this important infrastructure improvement. The redecking project will enhance the safety and longevity of the Trail for all users.

Our sincere thanks go to the West Virginia Division of Highways for their assistance with this Federal Transportation Alternatives contract. We also gratefully acknowledge the generous financial support from those who have helped us meet the 20% match funding requirement: James F.B. Peyton Foundation, Seneca Trail Charitable Foundation, Hollowell Dawkins Foundation, State Parks Foundation and hundreds of Trail users.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of the Greenbrier River Trail.
