WV House Democrats respond to Governor Morrisey’s State of the State address
PRESS RELEASE
“What we heard from Governor Morrisey tonight confirmed what West Virginians already know: after years of total Republican control, the people in charge still don’t have a plan that improves your everyday life in this state.
Republicans control the governor’s office, the Legislature, and every level of power; they own the outcomes.
Governor Morrisey did not offer an explanation or a solution to West Virginians’ real question — why does life here keep getting harder?
Costs are up. Wages are stagnant. Young people are leaving. Infrastructure is failing. And instead of owning that record, the governor offered distractions and culture-war talking points that solve absolutely nothing.
Schools are short teachers, classrooms are overcrowded, and education policy has been reduced to ideological battles instead of investment in students.
They love politics, but struggle with actual policy. Instead, we see petty political fights within their own party that don’t fix a single road, lower a single utility bill, or put food on a single kitchen table.
West Virginians don’t need more political theater. They need leadership that understands that you can’t pay the electric bill with talking points and you can’t keep young families here by legislating grievances.
West Virginia Democrats offer a clear alternative deepened in common sense. Through our Kitchen Table Agenda, we are focused on you. That means lowering costs for families, investing in your family’s future, expanding access to health care, and building an economy that gives our kids a reason to stay in West Virginia. We are focused on your quality of life, not just manufactured outrage.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer: Republicans are governing for headlines and division. Democrats are governing for working families. And we will continue to hold this administration accountable for choosing politics over progress.”
