Marchers on MLK Day call for justice in Lewisburg

A crowd of approximately 130 people from across the Greenbrier Valley marched through the streets of Lewisburg as part of the annual MLK Day festivities.
“It may look like it’s divided in Washington, DC, but in Lewisburg we stand together,” said James Wilmer outside the courthouse as the march began. “Are we gonna stand for our brothers and our sisters? Our neighbors?…Or are we just gonna close our eyes and turn our back to the injustice that’s going on?”
Chris Winston, a local citizen and lead organizer for the event, led marchers through the streets by singing civil rights anthems.

The group marched, with police support, from the courthouse to Lewisburg United Methodist, where they held a program headlined by Rev. Jeremiah Jasper of Elkins.
