Charleston, W.Va. – The 2026 West Virginia Vacation Guide is off to a record-breaking start, surpassing 100,000 requests from consumers across the nation and around the world. Following 81,000 pre-orders, more than 25,000 additional travelers have requested a free

Almost Heaven trip planner since its unveiling by Governor Morrisey just three weeks ago. 

Full of stunning imagery and trip inspiration, this guide makes the perfect tool for planning an escape to the Mountain State. Travelers can request a free copy of the luxury Almost Heaven trip planner online to be sent directly to their doorstep. The new Vacation Guide will also be available for visitors at each of the state’s welcome centers.

From beloved traditions to secrets off the beaten path, this guide uncovers the best ways to experience all four of West Virginia’s unique seasons. Readers can explore stories that celebrate

Appalachian cuisine, local lore, deep-rooted history, majestic waterfalls, the spirit of mountain music, and more. Designed with a blend of paper types, the guide features textile elements, charming illustrations and designated note sections ideal for jotting down personalized trip ideas and packing lists.

The 2026 Vacation Guide was produced in partnership with People Inc., America’s largest publisher, producing publications such as Better Homes & GardensPeopleSouthern Living, and Travel + Leisure magazines. By partnering with People Inc., 100,000 copies of the guide will be mailed to Travel + Leisure magazine subscribers in West Virginia’s target markets to encourage travel to the Mountain State. Last year, the West Virginia Department of Tourism distributed over a quarter of a million printed guides to travelers across the world and is on track to set a new record.
