Jessica Irons and Jennifer Porter met at a picnic and share a love of homemaking.
“I was a stay-at-home, and she was an empty-nester, and we were talking about how we were bored. Then we got word that the space was going to become vacant so we immediately jumped on that and then it snowballed,” Irons said.
On Friday, the friends celebrated the opening of the newest addition to Lewisburg’s downtown shopping offerings – The Fancy Pheasant. The store is a men’s and children’s clothing and home goods store.
“We’re both moms and we enjoy homemaking so that was our inspiration for the home decor side of things,” Irons said. “As far as the men, I just think there’s a need locally and regionally for men’s wear.”
The children’s clothing section features classic children’s clothing made from Pima cotton and smocked clothing options.

Irons grew up in Lewisburg and loved her childhood. She moved away for college but told herself that if she ever had kids she wanted to raise them in Lewisburg. Porter is from Charleston, where she previously owned a children’s store. Her background is in interior design.
“She’s been in this industry before so that helped my comfort level as far as pursuing this,” Irons said.

The Fancy Pheasant will also offer wedding and baby registries and custom monogramming. Irons said they want to cater to locals as well as tourists.
“We kind of want to be a one-stop shop,” Irons said. “I’m sure everyone can find something here. I think we did a good job of sourcing things that appeal to all different sorts of people.”
The Fancy Pheasant is located at 934 Washington St W, Lewisburg. Tentative hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:30a.m-5:30p.m. and Sunday 12p.m-3p.m.
