Inside The Hollerwood House: Reimagining a Ronceverte classic

RONCEVERTE W.Va — A cornerstone of Ronceverte’s history reopened its doors this year as an inn and event space. The Hollerwood House, formerly known as the Edgarton Inn, has been transformed by homeowners Chris and Jorge Rodriguez-Stanley into a bed-and-breakfast and community space.

The charming home, which features three bedrooms, bathrooms, and multiple common spaces, has been fully booked every weekend since its reopening in March.

Not only does The Hollerwood House provide a welcoming environment for all travelers, but it’s also a stunning spot for visitors to make memories. The Hollerwood House has hosted celebrations of all kinds, including bridal and baby showers, receptions, nonprofit events, and more.

“This is a great project with so many creative plans for the future,” said Keaton Burton, the innkeeper at The Hollerwood House.

Though the future has a lot in store for The Hollerwood House, honoring the home’s past is just as important as planning for its future.

“When we bought the property, we weren’t just buying a house — we were buying a piece of history,” owner Jorge Rodriguez-Stanley said. “We want to keep the history alive and honor it while ushering the home into the future.”

The home was built in 1810 by Thomas Edgar, the town’s founder, making it the oldest house in Ronceverte. At 216 years old, the house has only had seven owners since its inception, and only two additions have been made to the original structure.

Historic charm is found all over the home, from its soapstone fireplaces and original windows to its timeless turret overlooking Ronceverte.

Though Chris and Jorge Rodriguez-Stanley live in Los Angeles, they have West Virginia roots. Chris was raised in Ronceverte, so the couple jumped at the opportunity to own a place in his hometown.

“We always wanted to own a home in West Virginia,” Jorge said, “We knew the former homeowner, and when she came to us wanting to sell the house, we decided to take the leap.”

While they may live on the West Coast, Chris and Jorge manage bookings at The Hollerwood House and are constantly envisioning big plans for the space. In the future, they hope to add an addition to the exterior, expand the garden, and continue their research into the home’s history.

Keaton Burton, an Appalachian creative and innkeeper at The Hollerwood House, welcomes and takes care of guests, in addition to helping manage the property.

Outside of receptions and showers, The Hollerwood House has hosted many nonprofit events for local organizations, including Greenbrier Valley Pride and the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club.

“We want the house to feel like it’s part of the community, not just a house tucked away,” Jorge said, “It’s such a historic part of Ronceverte, and we want people to access that.”

The backyard, dining room, and living room are just a few spaces at The Hollerwood House that provide the perfect backdrop for a gathering or celebration.
