RealWV gets a website refresh

By Stephen Baldwin, RealWV

Three years ago, we launched RealWV with a simple idea: To provide a place for West Virginians to get the real story for free. Our mission was to reach beyond the headlines tot he heart of Appalachian identity.

It took off like we never imagined. 1,000 readers per week have turned into 40,000 readers per week during that time period! Our first week, we were amazed that thousands of people accessed our content via social media, and now more than 250,000 people access it every week.

We have a small and mighty team who puts the news together each day for you, our readers. They punch above their weight, shining a spotlight on important stories across the state which weren’t being told–good news stories, community information, in-depth reporting, and insight into Appalachian culture and identity.

Today, we launch a refresh of our RealWV website in order to continue fulfilling that mission. It’s still the simple, clean news website that you’ve come to love. No pop-up ads, no paywalls, and no junk to filter through while reading stories. But now it also has opportunities for you to support our work as nonprofit storytellers, easily subscribe to our weekly newsletter, and find previous articles.

Cucumber & Co was a terrific web provider for us over the last three years, and we are now very excited to work with Indiegraf moving into the future. We appreciate both of these organizations for all they do to support local news near and far.

Thanks for your patience in the coming weeks as we work out kinks with the new site. Feel free to email us anytime with your feedback or suggestions: news@therealwv.com

Have a great day!

Stephen Baldwin, Publisher of RealWV
