Charleston celebrates ‘Amazing Delores Day’
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia’s own Amazing Delores was remembered and celebrated at the West Virginia Museum of Music on Sunday, by her friends, fans, and former bandmates.
Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin proclaimed Sunday, February 1 “Amazing Delores Day” in the city. On hand for the celebration to read Goodwin’s proclamation, was Kanawha County’s newest and first female Commissioner, Natalie Tennant.

Whereas, Delores Boyd, born in Mud Lick, West Virginia, emerged as a singular and unforgettable creative force whose life and work embodied originality, fearlessness, and Appalachian grit; and
Whereas, known to the audience as “The Amazing Delores,” she became a legend through her bold performances, unmistakable personal style, and magnetic presence, earning her the nickname after the now mythic performance at The Empty Glass; and
Whereas, her music and performances carried her well beyond West Virginia, including a widely remembered Nashville appearance, a debut recording release in 1994, and a one of a kind performance on Mountain Stage that remains part of its lore; and
Whereas, The Amazing Delores’ life and legacy were forever preserved through documentary storytelling and continue to be celebrated for their authenticity, imagination, and refusal to conform; and
Whereas, though she passed away in 2004, The Amazing Delores remains a lasting symbol of the creative spirit of West Virginia, an unapologetic original, and truly deserving of her name;
Therefore I, Amy Shuler Goodwin, Mayor of the City of Charleston, do hereby recognize February 1, 2026, as “Amazing Delores Day” in Charleston, West Virginia, in recognition of her enduring legacy, and the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame continues to honor her spirit, and keep her story alive for future generations
