Greenbrier County Joint Community Food Drive collection ends Thursday

By RealWV Staff,

Last month, Greenbrier County’s Republican Club and Democratic Women’s Club – two organizations with extreme differences in their respective political ideologies – came together for the betterment of their community. Now as the holiday season draws near, the culmination of their combined efforts will pay dividends to the many residents of Greenbrier County who could use just a little help.

Food collection began on Nov. 1, and both red and blue volunteers have been hard at work sorting, stacking, bagging, and packing. This week’s open collection will take place at the Marvel Center in Rupert on Wednesday, and Old Stone Fellowship Hall in Lewisburg on Thursday. Donations times for both locations are from 2 – 4 p.m.

This week, donations for the Greenbrier County Community Food Drive will be accepted from 2-4 at the cafeteria at the Marvel Center in Rupert on Wednesday, November 15 and in the Old Stone Fellowship Hall in Lewisburg on Tuesday, November 14 and Wednesday, November 16.

For those wishing to make a financial contribution to the food drive, monetary donations are always welcome, and can be made via PayPal to, or delivered to a food donation location. All donated funds will be used for the purchase of needed items.

“While all types of non-perishable food are welcome,” says Sarah Umberger, treasurer of the Greenbrier County Democratic Women’s Club, “the greatest needs are toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine products), canned fruit, condiments, healthy snacks, jelly and jam, and canned meats.”
