McDowell County residents become latest to lose representation in House of Delegates, still await naming of new county commissioner
By RealWV Staff,
McDowell County residents have become the latest in an ever-growing list of West Virginians to lose their representative in the State’s Legislature on Sunday, as Republican Delegate Anita Hall became the latest House member to tender her resignation.
With Hall’s resignation comes yet another appointed replacement, meaning some 11% of the House of Delegates will be Gov. Jim Justice appointees. Hall was first elected to the House in 2022, and served only half of her elected term. According to a report from Lootpress, Hall cited only “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for her resignation.
While Hall’s resignation from the House of Delegates is the second such resignation since the start of the new year, it is also the second significant leadership resignation in McDowell County in as many weeks. McDowell County Commissioner, Republican Cody Estep, resigned his position on Dec. 31. With one year remaining on his term, Estep’s replacement will serve until the next election. That replacement will also be an appointee – that appointment being made by the two remaining commissioners.
There is no word yet on candidate names to replace either Hall or Estep. RealWV will provide updates regarding potential appointees as additional information is made available.
