West Virginia named in National Geographic’s ‘Best in the World 2024’

By RealWV Staff,

National Geographic’s annual list of the 20 “coolest travel adventures” across the world includes some familiar terrain…our very own Mountain Momma, West Virginia!

Landing at #18 on the list is “Ride the rapids in West Virginia.” Showcasing the New River, which is actually one of the oldest in the world and flows south to north, National Geographic encourages travelers to book a rafting trip and enjoy some of the world’s best rapids right here in Central Appalachia.

“If the world didn’t know before about the beautiful state we get to call home, they surely do now,” Gov. Jim Justice said of the designation by National Geographic.

Other travel adventures highlighted include horseback riding in Kenya, antiquing in the Hudson Valley, art exploration in Algeria, diving with sharks in Australia, and more. For the full list, visit here.
