Mountaineer Marching Band made many of us proud on Thanksgiving Day

The turkey was baking, the fixin’s were being prepared, and the kids were snuggled under their blankets playing video games and coloring as some of the staff at RealWV watched the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But, this wasn’t just any ol’ Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

This year, for the first time since 2016, West Virginia University’s “Pride of West Virginia” Mountaineer Marching Band made their appearance in New York City.

According to a WVU press release, “The Pride” joined 10 other marching bands, 22 balloons, 34 floats, 28 performers, 11 performance groups, 28 clown crew and more. They all followed a 2.5 mile route, lined with spectators, between Central Park West and Macy’s Herald Square.

The Mountaineer Marching Band was selected out of hundreds of others who had applied to take part in the famous parade.

As the band marched into the camera’s view on that rainy day, no doubt many people in West Virginia were smiling and feeling proud of their state. We know we were thankful to be living in such a great place. Sure we have our problems, but it’s moments like this that pull us together. For us, wherever we go, we eventually start longing for home — “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Great job, Mountaineers!
