WV Democrats question Capito’s votes on ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’
PRESS RELEASE
CHARLESTON, WV – Amid reports of massive arm twisting and backroom deals, as the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on President Trump’s controversial budget reconciliation bill, rumors are rampant that Senator Shelley Moore Capito is ready to trade her support for the bill in exchange for the appointment of her son, Moore Capito, to the powerful U.S. Attorney position in West Virginia.
Mike Pushkin, chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party said, “One has to wonder why Senator Capito would be such an enthusiastic cheerleader for a bill that is so devastating to West Virginia and its citizens. One logical explanation is that she’s holding out for a deal… her vote in exchange for her son’s political advancement. If so, that’s not public service — that’s corruption. The bill, which the Congressional Budget Office confirms will add $3.8 trillion to the national debt while throwing nearly 70,000 West Virginians off Medicaid and potentially forcing seven rural hospitals in the state to close, has drawn fierce opposition from health care providers, budget experts, and working families alike. All to finance massive new tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
“If Capito votes for this bill and her son ends up as U.S. Attorney, West Virginians will know exactly what happened,” Pushkin continued. “Her vote — and our justice system — were put up for sale.”
The WV Democratic Party urges Senator Capito to reject this disastrous legislation and to answer clearly and publicly whether any discussions have taken place regarding her son’s appointment in exchange for her vote.
