Ronceverte City Hall expected to resume normal operation this week, after partial closure due to ‘safety concerns’

RONCEVERTE, W.Va. – Officials with the City of Ronceverte, on Friday, restricted public access to the City Hall lobby, “Due to current and ongoing safety concerns for City Hall staff.” Residents were advised to utilize payment drop boxes when able, or to call in advance of arrival to make arrangements for the drop off of cash payments.

“We understand that this is not ideal,” City officials stated in a social media post. “However, the safety of our employees is of utmost importance to us and we must act accordingly.”

In a second post later in the day on Friday, officials added, “The safety concerns leading to the closure of City Hall to the public today were not directed at city residents.” The post provided a brief explanation by referencing statements made online “that could be perceived as threats to city government officials and staff.”

“We must take any potential threats to city officials and/or city staff seriously, and will continue to do so in the future,” the post concludes.

City officials expect that City Hall will resume normal operations on Monday, with the lobby fully re-opened to the public. RealWV will provide updates regarding this situation as additional information is made available.
