Ranking the best new food at the State Fair of West Virginia
By Amelia & Gloria Tuckwiller for RealWV,
The official unofficial 2025 State Fair of West Virginia New Fair Food Review is here!

11. Buckeye Lemonade – Miller and Company – $10. First of all, the poster had the Ohio State logo on it. The drink is a combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and lemonade. We like all 3 flavors individually and love peanut butter and chocolate together, but all 3 flavors and textures make for an interesting combination.

10. Cotton Candy Pickle – The WV Pickle Guy – FREE SAMPLE. These were good, but we couldn’t really taste the cotton candy flavor. We like pickles and feel that the pickle flavor out performed any other. If you go here, try the kool-aid ones!

9. Dubai Chocolate Funnel Cake – GH Concessions – $14. This was interesting. Tasted okay. The chocolate chips added a nice flavor. Dubai chocolate is made of pistachios and is green. Not the best appearance for fair food, but it was good.

8. Samoa Funnel Cake – Chambers Concessions – $16. We love samoa girl scout cookies. We liked the cookie crumbles on this Funnel Cake. We also liked the creativity, but at the end of the day we still love that plain powdered sugar Funnel Cake.

7. Wild and Spicy West Virginia Pickle Pizza – Gillette’s Pizza and Lemonade – $8. We LOVE their Pickle Pizza. In our opinion it was perfect and did not need the added spice. Just stick to one of our fair favorites, the plain Dill Pickle Pizza!

6. Strawberries and Cream Fresh Squeezed Lemonade – Blue Ribbon Kettle Corn – $8. We really enjoyed this! It was very sweet and refreshing. It’s close to the midway and will cool you down, since the midway is 10-15° hotter than the rest of the fair!

5. Loaded Pickles – G3 Concessions – $12. We liked these! Deep fried pickles, cheese sauce, bacon bits, and a side of ranch. Everything you might eat on a cheeseburger minus the bun and the burger. Very good!

4. Mac & D – Fork’et Me Not – $17. We LOVE everything on the menu from Fork’et Me Not. The mac and cheese was very good, as was the chicken. The doritos mixed in were good, but they get a little soggy and you really don’t need them.

3. Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream – Trudy’s Ice Cream – $6. This is Cinnamon Toast Crunch in a cone! It almost tastes like a snickerdoodle! We love all the flavors at Trudy’s here at the fair and at their location in New York City! You can’t go wrong here, and also be sure to try the frozen chocolate covered bananas!
Now, a first for us….we leave you with a two-way tie for 1st place.

The Repeat Offender – Gus Bus Burgers – $12. This was delicious! We have been looking for a hamburger since our other favorite is no more. This hit the spot! It was huge! They added a side of ketchup and mayo, but you don’t even need it! (Additionally, we tried their cheese curds with caramel dipping sauce. We were blown away!) This is a new booth here at the fair. They did a really nice job with the building and added bench seating. Your only problem here will be waiting in line at this new popular spot.

The Pretzelroni Roll – The Twist – $10. Everyone in Monroe County had told us about this. We wanted to try them at Farmer’s Day but the line was always too long. We finally tried it here at the fair and it was just as good as everyone had said! A pretzel dough pocket with pepperoni and cheese on the inside. The pretzel dough salt really hit the spot on this one. Well done!
Here are a few of our old trusted and true favorites in no particular order.
– Dill Pickle Pizza
– Chocolate frozen banana (Trudy’s)
– Butt Fries
– Cinnamon Rolls
– BenEllen donuts
– London Broil Steak Sandwich
– Orange Sherbet (Maxwelton)
– Shrimp Tacos
– Roasted Corn on the Cob
– FFA ham sandwich
– Paul Bunyan
We hope you enjoy!
Respectfully,
Amelia and Gloria
