Mary Catherine Tuckwiller
The nomination email for this week’s Real West Virginian says it better than we could ever say it ourselves…
Since moving to Lewisburg just a few years ago, Mary Catherine Tuckwiller has become a true force of nature in our community – the kind of person who sees a need and intentionally, steadily, and skillfully helps meet it.
Professionally, Mary Catherine brings deep expertise in education law, advising boards of education across West Virginia. Her prior service as a teacher, then as counsel to the West Virginia Board of Education and Department of Education, give her an unmatched understanding of state policy, funding structures, and the real-world challenges school systems face. She now leverages that experience to help counties make thoughtful, legally sound decisions that ultimately benefit students and families across the state.
But what truly makes Mary Catherine stand out is how generously she brings that same expertise – along with extraordinary discernment and compassion – into her volunteer service. In a short time, she has become one of the most dedicated community leaders in Greenbrier County, serving on the boards of the Child & Youth Advocacy Center, Carnegie Hall, Greenbrier Community School, St. James’ Episcopal Church, and Communities in Schools of Greenbrier County. Whether strengthening organizations that support children and families, nurturing the arts, or helping faith and education communities thrive, Mary Catherine leads with both sharp intellect and a deeply tender heart for people in need.
She is also a devoted mother and partner, building a bright and loving future for her two children, her husband, and their extended family – modeling service, integrity, and care in everything she does.
West Virginia is stronger because Mary Catherine chose to call our state home. She is, in every sense, a Real West Virginian.
See? Told you we couldn’t have said it better ourselves – so we will just say we’re proud to name Mary Catherine Tuckwiller as the Certified Real West Virginian of the Week.
