Richard Miller and the Lindside and Union VFDs

This week’s Real West Virginian – or we should say Real West Virginians – are the Lindside and Union Volunteer Fire Departments, along with Monroe County 911 Director and Lindside VFD Chief Richard Miller. And if you read through their nominating email, you’ll definitely see why!

“During the late January ice and freezing temperatures, my family experienced firsthand the care and professionalism these volunteers bring to our community. When my parents’ beloved red retriever, Cliff, slipped down an icy hillside late at night and couldn’t make it back up, 911 was called as a last resort. Richard Miller  responded immediately, and members of the Lindside and Union VFDs came out in the early morning hours to help. Thanks to their calm teamwork and compassion, Cliff was safely brought home unharmed.

“This wasn’t an isolated act. During that cold stretch, these crews assisted with numerous animal rescues across the county, showing the same dedication they bring to every emergency. Their willingness to help, no matter the hour, weather, or whether the call involves people or animals, says everything about who they are and why our community is so lucky to have them.”

For being there to serve the members of your community – even the four-legged members – when they need you the most, we are thrilled to name Richard Miller, as well as the Lindside and Union Volunteer Fire Departments as the certified Real West Virginians of the Week!
