Fresh Air, Full Plates: The forecast is calling for flavor this spring
By Dakota Baker
If you ask me, we are about as complex as plants. All we really need is sunshine and nutrients.
With the sun finally making a reappearance and bringing warmer weather with her. What better place to be than historic downtown Lewisburg? After all, they just won USA Today’s Best Small Town Food Scene for the fourth year in a row!
Friendly faces, a welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of great spots to enjoy a meal outside, it’s kind of the perfect place to soak it all in.
Now, if you are unfamiliar with the downtown area, I will be your interim guide on all things food for today.
Although, I must warn you, I do not know a thing about food in a professional capacity. I just like to eat, especially outside.
Our first stop of the day will be The Humble Tomato. If you are a carb craver much like myself, and need a good pizza or pasta while soaking in the sun. The Humble Tomato will always be my first choice (The Jenn-A pizza is my current hyperfixation).

In the mood for a hotdog and a drink with some friends? Briergarten has a fabulous outdoor patio with a sweeping drink menu and 8 hotdog options. I bet you didn’t know you needed a hotdog until now.

Need a mid-day pick me up? The Wild Bean is a local favorite. Coffee as far as the eye can see. But, not just coffee. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups, fries, and plenty of sweet treats. The perfect pitstop during your downtown shopping spree.

Now, if there is one thing Lewisburg is abundant in, it is our bakery style options. If you are a sweets enthusiast, look no further than our small town. My favorite place to go to succumb to my sweet tooth is Amy’s Market. More specifically, to demolish a chocolate ganache cupcake. If you’re more into savory than sweet, don’t fret, there are plenty of sandwich options for you too.

Last, but certainly not least. Let’s take outdoor seating and make it rooftop chic. That is exactly the type of vibe The Asylum serves, along with good food and good views. What more could you ask for?

Anyway, my stomach started growling while I was writing this, so I guess that’s my cue to head downtown. You might want to do the same. After all, what a great way to support our local business and curb your appetite? Sounds like a win-win to me. This list is just the beginning!
With so many amazing restaurants downtown, we’d love to hear which are your favorites!
