High water draws whitewater boaters to Harpers Ferry

The week of May 21–28 saw heavy rainfall across West Virginia, causing creeks and rivers to rise across the Mountain State. In Harpers Ferry, W.Va., where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers converge, water levels rose significantly because of the rain. With high water and Class II-III rapids, paired with the first clear weekend after the state’s deluge of rain, conditions were ideal for whitewater boaters to have fun on the river.
