Ronceverte City Council June meeting recap

By Dakota Baker, RealWV

The Ronceverte City Council convened on Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. With Mayor Pack unable to attend, Council Member Leah Smith presided over the meeting alongside three other council members.

The meeting opened with approval of the minutes from the council’s previous session.

Under old business, council members revisited the Police Department’s use-of-force policy. The topic has remained under review while updated versions of the policy are being prepared. Although two revised drafts have been completed, council members have not yet had sufficient time to examine them. As a result, discussion was deferred, and the matter was tabled for the next meeting.

Council members then approved Resolution No. 10, authorizing payment of invoices associated with Phase 4 of the city’s water project. The invoices covered publication costs connected to environmental studies required for the project.

During new business, council members approved the reappointment of Pam Arnold to the Library Board of Trustees for another five-year term.

Council also adopted two budget resolutions.

Budget Resolution 2026-01 addressed the Coal Severance Fund. After receiving additional revenue, the city approved reallocating funds to street and highway improvements, increasing the budget by $6,271.

Budget Resolution 2026-02 focused on the general fund. Council authorized the transfer of unassigned funds to several departments and programs requiring additional financial support, including the city manager’s office, elections, City Hall, municipal buildings, contingency accounts, the fire department, and parks and recreation. The adjustments resulted in a total budget increase of $107,390.

Council members also approved a request from the Ronceverte Food Pantry to conduct a bucket drive on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25, 2026.
