The Official-Unofficial Guide to New Food at the State Fair of WV

By Amelia & Gloria Tuckwiller for RealWV,

FAIRLEA, W.Va. — The official unofficial 2026 State Fair of West Virginia New Fair Food Review is here!

This year there were 17 new fair foods. Due to time constraints, we omitted the two funnel cakes from our review. They both looked great, but we feel funnel cake toppings are a personal preference and we recommend you get whatever funnel cakes you like. You can’t go wrong with a funnel cake!

#15 – Korean Corn Dog, Miller & Company, $15. First of all, $15 for a corndog is too much. Secondly, there wasn’t an actual dog in the corn dog! It was all cheese! We had no idea what we were getting! It was a giant deep fried cheese stick. We got the original, so maybe the Fruity Pebbles or Flaming Hot Cheetos were better. We saw a lot of people eating them, but we’re sorry to say, it was not our favorite.

#14 – Teriyaki Chicken and Rice Bowl, GH Concessions, $16. This was okay, with chicken, rice, and pineapple, but not a stand out.

#13 – Matcha Lemonade, GH Concessions, $12. Not bad. The lemonade wasn’t too tart and the matcha wasn’t too earthy. A good balance, but hard to compete with the other items, especially at that price point.

#12 – Freedom Fries, Fork’et Me Not, $19. Fork’et never disappoints. We liked the variety of the fries: waffle cut, sliced, and regular, covered with Yum-Yum sauce and ranch, but unfortunately this couldn’t compete with this year’s line up.

#11 – Hot Honey Pepperoni & Ricotta Pizza, Gillette’s Pizza & Lemonade, $8. The price point is great for the fair! We liked this pizza, and we love hot honey, but it was eventually replaced by other tastier and more creative items.

#10 – Key Lime Pie Lemonade, Blue Ribbon Kettle Corn, $10. This was pretty good! If you like party punch, this is for you!

#9 – Banana Pudding Ice Cream, Trudy’s Dairy World, $6. We LOVE Trudy’s Dairy World and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, especially their frozen chocolate covered bananas. The banana pudding ice cream was delicious, but it’s hard to compare ice cream with other more savory items.

#8 – Corn in a Cup/Elote en Vaso, Cowboy Daniel’s Roasted Corn, $8. This was good! It’s served warm. They added flaming hot cheetos on top which added just enough kick to each bite. We were disappointed in the cup size, about 8 oz., and it is a warm dish, which can be a hit or miss on a hot summer day, but we did enjoy it and will be back later in the week for their roasted corn on a cob.

#7 – Almost Heaven Caramel Apple Parfait, Apples and Cream, $7. This was yummy! Cinnamon, apples, ice cream, whip cream, and caramel! We enjoyed this afternoon treat!

#6 – Cheesecake Dippers, Sim’s Enterprises, $12. The staff here was so friendly! They have several topping flavors, but personally said they recommend the Butterfinger topping, which was the one we were thinking about trying anyway, so we trusted their opinion! They were right! This was good. If it were up to our dad, this would be number 1! Toppings offered: oreo, turtle, strawberry, nutty buddy, and butterfinger.

#5 – Garlic Parm Pretzelroni Roll, The Twist, $11. We love The Twist and the price point is good. The Pretzelroni Roll tied for first last year, so we knew we would love this! We really liked this one, but deep down prefer the regular salted pretzelroni roll. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu!

#4 – PickleRoni Slice, Swift Pizza Emporium, $8. Again, we love these $8 price points! We really liked this one. It had a good mix of the pepperoni you know and love, with a side of pickles, but not as strong as the Dill Pickle Pizza. It was topped off with a ranch drizzle. A nice combination.

#3 – Loaded General Tso’s Chicken, China Palace II, $14. We really liked this one! It was very good. The General Tso’s Chicken was served on a bed of french fries with cheese, sour cream, and chives! Some say there was too much sauce, but we liked the fact that there was a lot of sauce so you didn’t end up with dry fries on the bottom. It’s a hot dish (temperature and spice-wise), but definitely filling!

#2 – Maized and Cornfused, GH Concessions: Funnel Cake, $12. No, we are not CORNfused. This one hit the spot! So good! Golden oreos fried in sweet corn batter, topped with melted butter, and honey! We loved them!

#1 – Dirty Dot Soda, Coach’s Dippin’ Dots, $10. We may be the last people on the planet to discover Dirty Sodas, but we absolutely loved this concoction. It was love at first sip! We knew immediately it was our #1. Dr. Pepper on ice, sweet cream, cotton candy syrup, topped off with cotton candy flavored Dippin’ Dots! We love Dr. Pepper. We love cotton candy. This was so creative, fun, and refreshing! Well done!

We hope you enjoy!

Respectfully,

Amelia and Gloria
