Greenbrier County Schools celebrates major milestones at Frankford and White Sulphur Springs elementary schools

LEWISBURG, W.Va. – September 15 will be a day of celebration across Greenbrier County as students, families, educators, and community members gather to mark two important milestones in the future of local schools.

Greenbrier County Schools will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Frankford Elementary School at 10:00 a.m., followed by a groundbreaking ceremony at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. Both events highlight significant investments in safe, modern learning environments for current and future generations of students. The public is invited to attend.

A New Chapter for Frankford Elementary

The Frankford Elementary ribbon-cutting celebrates the completion of a $7,307,058 renovation and construction project funded through a $6,707,058 West Virginia School Building Authority (WVSBA) Needs-Based Grant and a $600,000 investment from Greenbrier County Schools. 

The project transformed the campus with the addition of new learning spaces and major safety and accessibility improvements, including:

• A central addition and connecting corridors that bring the school under one roof
• Additional classroom space
• A secure main entrance
• Accessibility upgrades, including an elevator
• New administrative offices
• Improved bus and parent drop-off traffic patterns
• Removal of outdated portable classrooms
• Electrical and infrastructure upgrades
• A sprinkler system throughout the facility 

“I am thankful for the dedication and teamwork it took to reach this milestone,” said Frankford Elementary Principal Ashley Spencer. “This new facility represents a bright new chapter for our students at Frankford Elementary. I look forward to seeing students walk through the doors every morning feeling excited, safe, and ready to learn.”

Superintendent Jeff Bryant said the project reflects years of planning and advocacy on behalf of the Frankford community.

“Today marks the culmination of a long-awaited investment in the students, staff, and families of the Frankford community,” Bryant said. “These improvements enhance safety, accessibility, and learning opportunities while preserving the traditions and strong sense of community that make Frankford Elementary so special.”

Looking Ahead at White Sulphur Springs Elementary

Later that afternoon, community members will gather to celebrate the beginning of another transformational project as Greenbrier County Schools breaks ground on a major renovation and addition at White Sulphur Springs Elementary School.

Funded through a $14 million WVSBA Needs-Based Grant and $405454 in local funds, the $14,405,454 project will modernize the school while improving safety, functionality, and educational opportunities for students. 

Planned improvements include:

• A secure and accessible main entrance
• Safer bus and parent drop-off areas
• A multipurpose room for physical education, instruction, assemblies, and community events
• A new administrative office suite with counseling, nursing, and student support spaces
• HVAC and electrical upgrades
• New windows and roofing
• Restroom improvements
• Dedicated staff parking areas 

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting transformation for our school community,” said White Sulphur Springs Elementary Principal Tina Campbell. “These improvements will create a safer, more welcoming, and more functional environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive. We are grateful for this investment and look forward to watching this vision become a reality for our students, staff, and families.”

Bryant noted that the project will benefit both current students and future generations.

“This groundbreaking represents an investment not only in our students but also in the future of the White Sulphur Springs community,” Bryant said. “The School Building Authority’s support will allow us to create a safer, more efficient, and more functional facility that serves students and families for generations to come.”

Together, the Frankford Elementary and White Sulphur Springs Elementary projects represent more than $20.7 million in investments in Greenbrier County schools through the West Virginia School Building Authority’s Needs-Based Funding Program. 

“These two projects demonstrate our commitment to providing every student with a safe, modern learning environment where they can thrive,” Bryant said. “One ceremony celebrates a promise fulfilled, while the other marks the beginning of an exciting new journey. We are grateful to the West Virginia School Building Authority for its partnership and continued investment in the future of Greenbrier County students.”
