Delk leads Shepherd women’s soccer past Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.  – Junior forward Merritt Delk (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park/Toledo) scored on an assist from senior midfielder Reagan Ackermann (Myersville, Md./Middletown/UNC Wilmington) in thegame’s final minute to liftShepherd University (4-1-0, 3-1-0 PSAC East) to a 3-2 win over Bloomsburg (1-3-0, 1-3-0 PSAC East) in PSAC East women’s soccer action at Bloomsburg on Wednesday night.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead into the break when sophomore defender/midfielder Aniyah Parker (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) scored on an assist from junior midfielder Olivia Gardner (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) at the 6:39 mark.

Bloomsburg tied the game on a penalty kick by Laci Bell at the 68:08 mark.

Shepherd took a 2-1 lead when redshirt sophomore defender Morgen Smith (Clarksburg, Md./Poolesville/Radford) scored an unassisted tally at the 70:10 mark.

The Huskies tied the game at 2-2 behind an unassisted goal by Olivia Thompson at the 83:51 mark to set the stage for Delk’s game-winner.

Redshirt junior netminder Alex Stuart (New Market, Md./Linganore/Eastern Kentucky) recorded seven saves in goal for the Rams. Izzy Hoffeditz recorded a save for the Huskies.

Both teams took 12 shots, with Bloomsburg holding a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. Bloomsburg had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m.
